Canadian Journalism Innovators exists because there are good things happening in Canadian media. It’s true that Canada has lost a staggering number of journalists, as media organizations face the grim realities of declining ad revenues. It’s true that this has serious consequences for the health of our democracy.
But it’s also true that the country is home to a growing chorus of new, digital and home-grown outlets that are already rebuilding Canada’s media landscape from the ground up.
Run by journalists for journalists, Canadian Journalism Innovators is a collaboration of media outlets focused on tackling three of the biggest challenges facing the industry: a lack of money, innovation and diversity.
Our goals are threefold:
1. Mobilize funding to create sustainable business models for public service journalism.
2. Accelerate innovation through collaborative research and development.
3. Ensure women and people of colour are equitably represented among founders and leaders of new digital media.
The ultimate mission of Canadian Journalism Innovators is to support the growth of a more sustainable and diverse media ecosystem in Canada.
Good things are happening.
